FOREVER COURTSIDE SCULPTURE

The Forever Courtside Sculpture mural is part of the Anaheim Dream Court by Nancy Lieberman Charities. The sculpture honors Kobe and Giana Bryant's legacy and what they mean to basketball and sports. A huge thank you to Vanessa Bryant, The Mambacita Foundation, and The Nancy Lieberman Foundation on this project for Pearson Park, Anaheim. May Kobe and Gigi's legacy live on forever.

MORE THAN AN ATHLETE

The Hollywood & Highland mural is on the fourth-floor terrace of the center at  6801 Hollywood Blvd., within steps of the Dolby Theatre, where Bryant received the Oscar at the Academy Awards ceremony. DJM Capital Partners commissioned the mural, visible to passersby on the street, as part of a public arts initiative.

Peterson, well known in Orange County for his portraits of homeless people, painted his first Los Angeles-area mural last year, a tribute to the leaping skills of Bryant and Los Angeles Dodger Mookie Betts, and the Los Angeles community’s ability to “rise above.” It faces the parking lot of Philippe the Original eatery near Union Station.

Peterson said during Thursday’s event that it was while he was painting that mural of Betts and Bryant, recently inducted posthumously into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, that he got hit with the idea — that “no one’s painted the mural that Kobe would have wanted.”

“I have this idea of painting a mural of Kobe receiving an Oscar,” he said he told Hollywood & Highland officials.

sERENITY

The 4 Hutton mural is on a 7-story parking structure visible from the Southbound 55 Freeway. It was inspired by Modern, Abstract, Peaceful, Nature art. The concept behind this mural takes the idea of a lotus flower and blends it with modern materials and layering. A lotus flower grows in the murkiest of waters. It prevails through the thick mud and blooms an image of hope. Hoping this piece continues to inspire the many businesses, employees, and partners who visit 4 Hutton daily.

UNITY.

This mural is installed on OCEAA Charter school in Santa Ana. It is a collaboration between the school, Purple Unity Project, Superior Property Services, and Acrylatex paints. The mural features a red and blue side, slowly blending to become purple in the middle. The middle of the mural features large heart hands, an invigoration for spectators to take a photo and declare to stand in unity with neighbors around them.

WE WILL RISE ABOVE…

Mural artists Brian Peterson, left, and Damin Lujan of Santa Ana created a 35-by-40-foot mural depicting Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers on a building overlooking the parking lot of Philippe the Original sandwich shop in Los Angeles.The image certainly conveys power. One half features the late Kobe Bryant; the young Kobe, in his original No. 8 jersey and his original short Afro; knees bent in mid-flight and both hands on a basketball that clearly is about to be thrown down in a mind-bending dunk. Next to the Lakers legend is the L.A. newcomer, Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts. The all-star has already carved a place into the hearts of Dodgers fans with a stellar season and an unworldly 2020 World Series. The mural shows Betts much like Kobe, No. 50 rising in the air against the outfield wall to snatch away an extra base hit, one of several jaw-dropping catches he made to help end the team’s 32-year championship drought.

And, between Kobe and Mookie, there’s a message: “We Will Rise Above … #LAtogether.”

This mural is installed in Scholarship Prep Santa Ana Campus on Grand Avenue. This state-of-the-art building will foster students from TK-3rd to serve their communities and achieve their greatest capacity! This mural is dedicated to inspiring students, parents, and staff daily with historical figures that have left a legacy for all to take part!

CARNEGIE SHELTER

This mural is installed on the Carnegie Shelter in Santa Ana, CA. The mural inspiration came from a dear friend whom Brian met experiencing homelessness who would always tell him, "when in doubt, just look up". Taking her life quote, the artwork represents hope, faith, freedom, and joy. Our team can't wait to witness the place open its doors to many of our neighbors looking for a new start.

WHEN I GROW UP

This mural is installed on the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin. The Boys and Girls Club of Tustin makes space to provide opportunities to see children's dreams come to pass. The mural embodies everything they believe in creating for kids. This wall features kids and their future hopes to impact the world. It's about destiny, purpose prophecy, hard work, determination, love, and hope. One child depicted is Aiden Leos, 6, at the right, who tragically passed away in May 2021.

LA PLACITA CINCO COMMUNITY

This mural is installed in partnership with Community Development Partners on their affordable housing development in Santa Ana called La Placita. Businesses, parks, housing, and parking are just a few of the amenities in this micro community. The mural design features a custom designed Dalia inspired mandala that incorporates icons from Santa Ana. The Santa Ana water tower, bowers museum, and Dia De Los Muertos are all integrated into the artwork.

WESTERN CAROLINA RESCUE MINISTRIES- ABBA’S HOUSE

The installation of this mural is at Abba's House- Western Carolina Rescue Ministries. Abba's House is an on-site program that helps addicted mothers and their babies. Additional onsite programs include Success Academy for men and women, Joshua Plan for men, and Abba's Love for women.

Western Carolina Rescue also provides services to men, women, and children- meals, food boxes, overnight shelter, showers, and clothing.

WESTERN CAROLINA RESCUE MINISTRIES

The installation of this mural is at Western Carolina Rescue Ministries. Their rescue services men, women, and children. They provide meals, food boxes, overnight shelter, showers, and clothing. Additionally, they give men and women restoration services that include- life counseling, job training, and assistance with transitional service.

GARDEN OF HOPE

This mural is located in the courtyard at the Cantlay Food Distribution Center, organized by Catholic Charities of Orange County. Three days a week, the Cantlay Distribution Center serves thousands of families' groceries in vulnerable neighborhoods in Santa Ana. The courtyard is being transformed with murals, seating area, and freshly grown vegetables.

oceaa PLAYGROUND

This mural is installed at OCEAA Charter school in Santa Ana. The mural(s) were part of the initiative to renovate the playground for the upcoming school year. It reflects the ideas and concepts that the parents and children of OCEAA wanted to see- nature & gardening, sports, and games. The new artwork proudly features activities that increase learning as children play games.

PHAINO RV

Muralists Brian Peterson and Scott Schaible paint an RV for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. The goal of the RV is to provide a mobile shower and laundry room. The artwork symbolizes the embrace and help we are called to in loving and carrying the burdens of our neighbors.

Golden wings

The installation of this mural is at Cantlay Food Distribution Center. Throughout the pandemic, they've served around 200,000 people, up tenfold since before the pandemic began. This wall will serve as a place where volunteers can share a photo, promoting the great work happening within these walls. The mural features wings that are captured in a way that makes them look like solid gold.

LIVING LEGACY

This mural in Santa Ana is installed on a large senior living housing development. Featured on the wall, are seniors whom have made a lasting legacy in Santa Ana.

A MOMENT OF PEACE

This mural is installed for Community Development Partners on their housing project for the homeless in Santa Ana. The project name, Querencia, refers to a moment and place in a bull fighting ring, where the bull finds rest and peace from the chaos around the event. This idea is translated into the property, in hopes of giving permanent rest to our neighbors whom have been fighting for survival for many years on the streets.

Formerly known as the Guest Inn and Suites, the hotel has been transformed into the The Orchard, a large 70 room permanent housing community for the homeless in Santa Ana. As construction nears a completion, Community Development Partners reached out to the local artist’s to brighten up the 3000 square ft wall in the rear of the building. 

Love for LA Mesa

What a joy it’s been for Damin and I to partner with Illumination Foundation to paint their new La Mesa Shelter in Anaheim. This shelter is another beautiful collaboration between the Non-Profit sector, government, health care, etc, to bring hope, dignity, love, and a hand up to our neighbors facing homelessness. In addition to the services this building will bring, we also pray for restoration in the hearts of our neighbors as these walls bring new saturation to an otherwise grey situation. Thank you Illumination Foundation for your tireless commitment to changing the world around us. Forever grateful for your continued sacrifice as you lay down your lives for others.
