“You’re a Beautiful Person, no matter what Anybody says” – Kimberly Lee

Kimberly grew up in a sheltered household where her family dealt with abuse and addiction. Kimberly herself dealt with depression. When she was younger Kimberly dreamed of being a nurse and even a check scanner at the grocery store. Currently she is a medical assistant and has been for 7 years. Kimberly’s happiest moment was when she married her husband, one of the most important people in her life. Through him she learned about God and has had success in battling her struggles. One of her biggest struggles was when she lost her children in 2013. Kimberly is a survivor of addiction and depression. Kimberly is a very strong, bright woman who is filled with hope and inspiration even in the face of misfortune.

Grateful for: the support I receive from the people in my life

When I decided to join this project I did not know much about the homeless community. During the time I’ve been painting Cindy’s portrait, I have learned a lot about what it is to be homeless and I learned to be understanding of other people’s struggles. I used blue in the background of Cindy’s portrait to show that she has lived through misfortune in the past, but that is all behind her now. I used pink and yellow to show that she is a strong woman with an amazing personality.
